Happy Wednesday y’all! It’s been a long week but I’m finally back in Norman after an amazing week in New York for fashion week and my birthday, and a delayed-turned-into-canceled-turned-into-going-home-to-Houston day yesterday! It snowed like crazy on Monday, so everyone’s flight was cancelled making the airlines push back all flights on Tuesday and the people already on them. I went to visit my friends at Cosmo and figured I should check my flight status and saw that I had a delayed flight and wouldn’t make my connecting flight in St. Louis to OKC to get back to school. Immediately i started searching for flights to Houston because if I was going to have to spend the night anywhere that wasn’t my home in Norman, it was going to be my home in Houston! I’ve already been planning on heading home for the weekend because my parents got a new 8-week old puppy last week and I just need some puppy loving’ in my life, so the situation was actually perfect for a non ideal travel situation. My flight back to OKC was at 7 am, and I have a jam packed day trying to get caught up on everything school related first (3 months until graduation y’all, I’m trying really hard to keep my priorities straight!), and also getting my tire fixed from last weeks Kayleigh-changes-a-tire fiasco. So while this day isn’t ideal and I’ll be in bed very early tonight, I’m glad to be back and get to working on sharing content with all of y’all from my week in the city!

When I got to the city I realized how insanely cold it was. I packed mainly seasonally appropriate items, but soon realized my legs weren’t going to be okay with just OTK boots or longer skirts. While I packed my few good coats, I soon switched to my big puffer coat after day 1 and started to slowly give up on how I looked, haha. My day 1 was probably one of the busiest days and since I had the most energy I was up to doing everything! I started the morning at the A Moi presentation where I saw so many amazing, intricate pieces. I forget what true fashion is actually like when I’m back at school, so I really loved getting back in the mindset of chic pieces.

After the presentation I made my way to meet up with my photographer Lauren and blogger friend Anna, where we headed to the Mathieu Mirano presentation filled with so many gorgeous, colorful pieces. My favorite part was the turtles running around on the ground! The presentation had more ball gowns than ready-to-wear, and I need any excuse to wear a plunging gown like the ones I saw!

Afterwards we headed to Union Square for a bite to eat and then were en route for the Marissa Web show. Without thinking, we didn’t check the address and just assumed it was at the main place, Skylight, but to our surprise it was at Clarkson Square and we didn’t have enough time to head back to the other location (cabs and ubers are brutal y’all). Luckily, we were just in time for the Desigual show and headed in one minute before it began.

Desigual

After the Desigual show it was time to lug my stuff from my friends apartment in Brooklyn to Manhattan, and while I was dreading this all day I didn’t even think to watch my phone battery! I ended up having a dead phone, trying to take the subway to a part of Brooklyn I’m unfamiliar with (she’s only lived there tow weeks), but luckily made it through! I’m definitely not checking that Uber receipt to get to the hotel though.

My day of fashion ended at the Hanley Mellon presentation where I saw so many great ready-to-wear pieces with my bestie and old boss at Cosmo, Linda from Live Laugh Linda. We caught up for a little bit and checked out the collection before parting our ways and I started getting ready to turn 22! My best friend Ellen got in just in time around 11:50 and we headed to my favorite bar, Phebe’s, to grab a drink and celebrate another year. One of my favorite parts about the city and biggest downfalls is that most places stay open until 4AM every night, which is great if you’re a night owl but not so great when you have to get up the next morning.

For the day of shows and presentations I wanted to wear something conventional and warm, but still fun enough to catch your eye when I walked by. This ASOS fringe skirt was the perfect piece for the occasion because it’s beaded fringe, making it heavier than a normal pencil skirt. I paired it with an oversized sweater to try and look more street style than usual, plus I knew with a long day of running around and cabbing that I want to be comfortable and this sweater is easily the most comfortable thing I’ve ever owned. I added my favorite snakeskin booties to tie together the colors and add some print to the mix, and ultimately I love how it’s a totally neutral look with a twist.

What do y’all think about my day 1 look? I’m currently working on a massive New York travel guide where I’m sharing (so far) over 30 of my favorite places I’ve curated over the last eight years from local to tourist, and must-do’s to must-avoids! If you have any places you want to know about please let me know! I have so many favorite spots that I can’t wait to share with you later this week. Have great day y’all and thanks for reading!
