NYC Apartment Wish List

NYC Aparment Wish List

Happy Friday y’all! So with it officially being April (holy where did the time go?!) I decided I would share a peak into what I have on my apartment wish list for when I relocate to NYC in May. At the end of the month my family and I are taking a big leap of faith and heading to the city, papers in hand, to spend two long days meeting with brokers and realtors to sign on what I hope will end up being my dream apartment. I’ve been looking for the perfect place since October, and every time I find one that I think is worthy of becoming my new home, I quickly get shot down by the realization that May is too far away. Now when I find one I love, I immediately email and explain my situation in hopes of having something stay on the market for just a few more weeks. My friend Caitlyn has lived in the city for four years, and has lived in four different places so she has been a massive help in this process, and is coming on our journey with us to play devil’s advocate since she’s done this so many times.

Luckily, when I bought my bed for my house in Norman I was already thinking about practicality in terms of storage and space. I got my bed from PB Teen, and the dresser is built underneath so that you don’t have to worry about finding an additional dresser. Ideally I would like to find an apartment that has a dine-in bar type of table, so that I don’t have to get a dining room table, but if I do have to get a table I’d prefer it to be pub style and higher up. We bought my couch back in January, one of the biggest purchases, and since it will serve as Ellen’s bed for the summer, my mom’s bed when she comes to stay, and many of my friends beds during the years we decided to go with the largest option. I’m extremely excited because it’s hot pink! Would you expect anything else?! I had looked at white couches for awhile, but I just don’t think I’d be able to keep it clean especially since I would eventually like to get a puppy of my own, and assumed Hudson would make an appearance in the city. For my birthday and Christmas last year, my mom and grandparents got me prints from Oliver Gal, and they are such great investment pieces. They add so much color to any room and there are so many fashion/NYC related prints that I constantly drool over. My color scheme has always been shades of pink, gold and turquoise and I’m planning on keeping that in NYC to have my apartment as my happy place. I really debated going the sophisticated route with warm colors and dark browns, but I decided I wasn’t ready to be THAT much of an adult yet!

While there’s still tons of time to get everything, and I have to wait to see the size of my space and details, I’ve already made a folder for everything I want to optimize space and maximize storage. I’m at this point where my emotions are all over the place. I’m so sad to leave my friends and graduate, I’m overwhelmed at the idea of moving across the country for good, and I’m so insanely excited for what’s in store that I can hardly sleep at night! I find myself asking for guidance more now than ever, but I can’t believe the time is finally here and I’m getting ready to begin something I’ve been dreaming about since the eighth grade! Let me know what y’all think of my décor, I can’t wait to start setting up my space! Have a great day and thanks for reading!
