2020 Boho Bedroom Decor Refresh

Happy Friday y’all! If you’ve been following along on IG stories, you know that I’m SUPER big into refreshing my apartment for the new year. While I’m not necessarily partaking in the declutter challenge, I am going through and purging quite a bit of what I don’t need in terms of clothes, expired products, shoes I don’t wear (due to my foot problems/needing support), and so on.

One big thing I’m working on is getting my bedroom in a good place because I feel like it’s gone unfinished. Don’t get me wrong, I have PLENTY of furniture in the space to make it feel like home, but it’s definitely been lacking in the decor department in terms of accents and decorative additions. Since I’m not looking to spend a fortune, I’ve been taking a ton of inspiration off of Pinterest and seeing what I can find on Amazon or Target so that I’m not breaking the bank.

A lot of inspiration I’m taking is more of a boho-chic vibe. This is something I wanted to do when I originally moved in, but didn’t want to front the funds to get all of the pieces to really bring it to life. Now that Amazon has become the mecca for quite literally everything, I’m finding affordable options with easy ways to return should I not like anything.

The biggest and easiest way to add a bit of boho to your room refresh? Adding plants. That’s what I gathered from Pinterest and Instagram, and I’ve been dying to get some plants in my apartment (fake of course, hello bugs!). I’m hoping by the end of the month I’ll be able to order a few faux trees and plants, but they’re definitely last on my list of things I want to spend $$$ on. Linking some of my favorites I’ve found below!

One big moment of inspo I got from Pinterest was this pillar candle mantle. I have these AC unit covers that in both rooms that I deem as my “mantle” and use them for holiday decor, but during the year they tend to just be an eye-sore or catch all. I plan to recreate this concept with remote controlled pillar candles, this super fun donut shaped candle that’s on sale for $12, and adding hanging greenery at each end to really give that boho vibe. It may not work, but it’s what I’m most excited about!

I never settled on any art above or around my bed, so when I went to Tulum this past Christmas I took a note from all of the rattan/crochet/macrame/bamboo/etc. elements that are literally all over the place there. I wanted something subtle above my bed, so I found this bamboo art set that made the perfect addition without overpowering the room. I have lots of gold accents mixed with some rattan so I’m shooting for the perfect mix of boho-glam. I also found a small rattan tray to place next to my bed on my nightstand to hold all of my jewelry I wear everyday, my chapstick I keep next to me and so forth.

The rug I currently have in my bedroom is a little small for the space, but I love the pattern too much to get rid of it and it wouldn’t work anywhere else. One thing I’m going to try is layering rugs because I have a circular rug I ordered for underneath my vanity that ended up being too big. Instead of returning it, I’ve had it folded in half and honestly forget about it even though it’s being used. I think this will help just add a pop of white to the space and cover more of the floor. Fingers crossed it keeps me from throwing things all around!!
