My Current Hair Routine

Happy Thursday y’all! I hope everyone is having a great week. I seem to get a ton of questions regarding my current hair routine and products I’ve been using in quarantine as of late, so today I wanted to dedicate a post to what I’ve been doing and what has been making it so darn healthy!

What hair brands or products are you loving right now? I’d love to know! Have a great day y’all and thanks for reading!

Hair Health Tips: Of course, these are all tips and tricks that have worked for my hair but know that everyone’s hair is going to be different! I have color treated hair via full highlights (obviously lightening in the mix), and medium/straight texture.

Minimize how often you wash your hair. A weird but effective tip – the more you wash your hair the more you’re stripping it of it’s natural oil so it’s important to try to go 1-2 days without washing. I honestly wash mine every Monday and Thursday and stick to that.

Use some sort of scalp exfoliant to remove product build up and promote healthy scalp/hair growth. Especially if you’re pro-longing your wash, using a scalp scrub is key to remove any dry shampoo build up or sweat from working out.

Take a look at your shampoo – the majority of scalp irritation comes from harsh cleansers or ingredients in shampoo. If you find you have a lot of irritation then try Clean Hair products. I used to have a ton of scalp flakiness/irritation before I fully invested in a brand like Olaplex that is free of parabens and sulfates.

Minimize the amount of heat you apply to your hair per week. This has been huge in quarantine because I’ve essentially let my hair “breathe.” I still curl it once a week or so and use my hairdryer so that it’s straight/presentable, but the amount of heat is significantly less.

My Current Hair Routine:
My routine is currently split between my two Houston homes (one being my childhood suburban home, the other being the condo in Houston). When I came home I didn’t want to have to lug a suitcase back and forth between the two, so I invested in a hair routine for both locations which has changed over the last few months. What started as a convenience factor (i.e. Target items or items I had from years ago), quickly transformed as I began to test and try things. Side note, I did receive a few hair mailers that I’ve tested over the months, but those did not make it into this routine and everything (minus one mask) was purchased/tested out of my own curiosity.

My At-Home Routine: Aka my suburban home routine, I use this 1-2x a week depending on how sweaty I get during the week’s workouts.
Shampoo using JOICO Color Balance Purple Shampoo
Condition using Aquage Ultimate Color Care Strengthening Conditioner
Mask using Authentic Beauty Concept Glow Mask
De-tangle using Kenra Platinum Luxe One Leave-In
Hydrate ends with Kenra Moisturizing Oil
I either let fully air dry or I run the Revlon One-Step Hairdryer through my roots before bed

My At-Condo Routine: Aka when I head into town on Thursday evening and really R&R my hair. This is my more luxe routine with my pricier hair items so I limit to 1x a week BUT I ENJOY IT THOROUGHLY.
